Mike Stevens   MIKE STEVENS

MASTER MARINER ~ SOLICITOR 

 

Deck officer in the Merchant Service for 12 years, serving on  general cargo vessels, bulkcarriers, reefer ships, coastal product carriers and cross-channel ferries. Also extensive service of large and small sailing vessels including 2 years as chief officer on the Sir Winston Churchill a three-masted topsail schooner.

 

Commenced career in legal practice joining the Admiralty department of Holman Fenwick and Willan in 1973. Qualified as a solicitor in 1976 becoming a partner in 1981. Moved to Far East to head up the Admiralty department of the Hong Kong branch office, where he spent a total of 11 years. Returned to the London office in 1998. Formed own practice in 2003 and Dale Stevens LLP in 2004.

 

A leading international admiralty specialist, with over 30 years experience dealing with marine casualties, salvage and collisions. As a master mariner and lawyer he is well placed to investigate and advise on marine claims and liabilities. Has acted in many major, high profile casualties for owners, P&I and Hull insurers, worldwide and is well known throughout the maritime community.

 

An experienced yachtsman. Holding an RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate. Owns a 46ft sloop in which he has successfully competed in ocean races and sailed home from Hong Kong to Europe in 1997/8.


Member of The Honourable Company of Master Mariners, The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights and The Nautical Institute.

 

 

Michael Dale   MICHAEL DALE

SOLICITOR

 

Honours Law degree (London University) and Masters in maritime law (UWIST). Entered practice as trainee lawyer in 1979 with London City maritime and commercial law firm. Qualified 1981 and appointed partner 1985. Formed own practice in 1996 with offices in London and Port of Felixstowe and Dale Stevens LLP in 2004.

 

25 years experience as maritime and commercial lawyer. Represents P&I, Defence and Intermediaries/through transport and cargo insurers and clubs, shipowners, charterers, brokers, port authorities, commodity traders and banks.

 

Specialises in contentious and non contentious areas of dry shipping and commercial law including charterparties and bills of lading, cargo damage and shortage, road rail and air carriage, logistics, warehousing and distribution, agency, forwarding and e-commerce.

 

Travels extensively investigating marine casualties, cargo shortages and other maritime claims. Has lectured and written on maritime law. Named in legal directories as a "leading" maritime lawyer.
